Civic Center Park 2010 Restoration Project
Spectrum General Contractors was selected by committee to begin the $5.2
million phase
one of the Civic Center Park Restoration. Picked by the Civic Center Conservancy and Denver Parks, Spectrum spearheaded the team tasked with repairs and restoration set for the Voorhies Memorial and Greek Theater. This long awaited project broke ground in January with phase one’s completion summer 2010.
Interesting Facts:
The original Civic Center foundation was built from Turkey Creek Sandstone. Spectrum’s expert masonry partner, Building Restoration Specialties sourced quarries throughout the country and finally found the ideal match in Wilkeson
Sandstone. The sandstone was hand selected by BRS President, Rhonda Maas
in Washington state and shipped to Denver for the restoration process.
Through historical research by Spectrum’s architectural partner Gary Petri with SLATERPAULL, the team discovered that the original ceiling of the Voorhies Memorial was actually a different color and the team was able to match this Agean Teal color.
“Civic Center park is the jewel of the Denver Parks system, and one of the best examples in the country of a civic space from the City Beautiful movement. Spectrum General Contractors graciously accepted the challenge to restore
Denver’s historic and cultural icon with an accelerated schedule and limited budget. They successfully accomplished the work while maintaining the park’s daily functions and accommodating the city’s largest special events. Throughout the entire process, the Spectrum team exhibited a high level of professionalism and showed tremendous interest and love for their work. The City and County of Denver, Department of Parks and Recreation could not be any happier with the quality of work performed by Spectrum General Contractors. The experience was truly a pleasure, and
I look forward to the next opportunity to work with them”.
