Restoration of historic front porch (masonry, tile and architectural wood). Renovation of basement to add accessible lift, restrooms, curator’s office and exhibit space.
Basement – Restoration and renovation in the basement included the addition of an ADA platform lift, public restrooms, museum exhibit space and curator’s workspace. Scope included repair and updates for mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, structural repair and underpinning for new elevator shaft, exterior sitework/site drainage, window and masonry restoration in basement areas and new finishes throughout basement.
Front porch – Restoration included stabilization of covered porch sub-grade by over-excavation, conditioning and re-compaction for new porch structural concrete slab and restoration tile to exactly match original pattern and texture. Work also included architectural wood restoration of porch columns/trim and extensive masonry scope to replace previous restoration material that didn’t match historic material and had deteriorated to point of failure. In all cases historically authentic material was sourced for accuracy to original. All work was inspected by SHF staff for compliance with Secretary of the Interior’s Standards.
